Saint George’s Day
Patron Saint of England
April 23rd, 2008
As the story goes……
There once was a dragon who lived in a lake near Silena, Libya.. Whole armies had been lost to the dragon. The dragon ate 2 sheep a day and when the village ran out of sheep, they began sacrificing young maidens. St. George came to the village on a day a young princess was to be sacrificed. St. George went up against the dragon and killed him in one blow with his lance. He then went back to the villagers and through a magnificent sermon, converted them to Christianity.
Whether fact or fiction, the tale of St. George represents the victory of good over evil. Come out to celebrate! Wear a rose, send a card, let your nearest and dearest know that you are thinking of them.
Come join us at Sir Edmond Halley’s for a drink or a meal…..
